POOP PANCAKE MOLD

Processes: CNC Machining & CAM, DFM/DFA, Lateral Thinking

Project Brief

In 3 weeks, “make something that makes something:”

  • consists of an assembly of more than one CNC-machined part

  • includes one part that requires at least one part flip

  • is fixtured only with hardware

Challenges

  • Designing the hinge such that it could be machined with no tool crashes

  • Strategizing for part flips

  • Determining the best workholding method and work coordinate system (WCS) for machining the hinges

Results / Takeaways

  • If I had more time, I’d love to revisit the handle — the wood I found was very soft and does not stand up very well to the weight of the mold

  • Otherwise, I gained a lot of confidence in CAM and in using the CNC from this project! and was able to make many poop pancakes!
